Review 2: VFX

Topic: Find a movie/animation you think is historically important from a visual effects perspective. Briefly describe your reason for choosing it.

When I think of historically significant visual effects, a few movies come to mind. First is Metropolis, which even after almost 90 years is still viewed as a marvel of effects technology. The second movie that comes to my mind is 2001: A space odyssey, which I've chosen as the focus for this topic. While most techniques used in this film were not new, Kubrick took them to the next level. Highly powerful lenses and large rotating sets were all used to create the most realistic view of space the film industry had ever seen. The fact that moon landing conspiracy theorists believe that Kubrick was hired to make the fake footage is only a credit to his craftsmanship. .

Below is the opening clip of the 'future' setting.
