Review 7: Expressive Motion Graphic

Define differences between Motion Graphics vs Animation.

Motion Graphics and Animation are essentially the same set of tools, but used for different purposes. When used to construct completely fabricated scenes and images, it is animation. When used to enhance or modify existing live action film, it is considered to be motion graphics.

Often, motion graphics will be used in the form of impossible backgrounds, or large landscapes. They can also be small images to cover up equipment used in filming, such as cables or other types of rigging. For most cases, motion graphics are there to enhance the live action scene, and are usually not the center of attention.

This is not the case in Animation, which when used is almost completely the center of attention. Indeed, it is common for it to take up the entire body of the work. Since these use very similar tools but in different ways, it is possible for there to be specialists of both kinds, who for whatever reason find one more intuitive or natural than the other.
